About Exodus series
The Exodus Series, is a 14-episode audio drama expanding the storyline of the 1978 Battlestar Galactica series. Each episode will be of varying length, consisting of 2-3 45-50 minute CDs. At its conclusion, The Exodus Series will provide 40 hours of entertainment that should greatly expand the worlds of Galactica for old and new fans of the original series. At its introduction, the series will re-introduce some known characters from the series and lay the groundwork for an epic storyline that connects the 1978 series with many of the visionary concepts developed by Richard Hatch for his Battlestar Galactica: The Second Coming trailer and Tom DeSanto's derailed continuation project. It also incorporates some of the rejected concepts developed for the 2003 Sci-Fi channel miniseries and certain carefully chosen ideas from the Galactica: 1980 series.
The Exodus Series provides a far harder edge to the Galactica storyline than seen in the original, creating a hard-hitting drama that would never have been allowed when the television series was first conceived. Focusing less on space battles and more on the people facing catastrophic devastation and a battle for survival, the series dives deeply into the nature and history of both the Cylons and the Colonials and explains many of the unanswered questions fans have been asking for over 25 years.
Yet, The Exodus Series isn't a tale trapped in the 1978 original series. It is deeply rooted there and honors what was established but its real focus is on expanding the storyline of Battlestar Galactica and propelling it into the future.
Project Goals:
Battlestar Galactica: The Exodus Series is intended to provide fans of the original series with a window into the concepts and storylines developed for various continuation efforts throughout the past 25 years. It should also serve as a basic framework for additional fan efforts including fanfilms and artwork. The producers intend it to maintain a level of quality sufficient to warrant it being considered a valid expansion of the original 1978 Battlestar Galactica by the series fanbase. The current schedule calls for a new episode to be released every 3-4 months with an overall completion date in 2008.
Technical Details:
Presently, only the first episode has been fully scripted. The second episode is largely developed and currently under transformation from basic script to fully texted story. Episodes 3-12 have only been detailed as basic ideas. Certain story elements are being revamped, with the author's permission, from fan fiction written over the past few years.
The narration for episode 1 is recorded with a Samson C01U Direct to USB condensor microphone recorded with McFunSoft Audio Studio. Post production is accomplished with Adobe Audition.
Episode 1 is narrated by the author and includes selected voices from some of the leaders of Galactican fandom. Other key fandom personalities will appear throughout follow-on episodes.
Future Projects:
If The Exodus Series is successful, a second series concerning the early days of the Colonial War with the Cylons will be developed.
