Serenity Just the First The Firefly crew are signed up for three movies. December 13, 2004 - Despite a release that was rescheduled from April to September, things are looking good for Firefly. Series creator Joss Whedon and the film's backers are hoping to make spin-off movie Serenity the first part of a trilogy, as Nathan Fillion (Capt. Malcolm Reynolds) confirmed to About.com in a recent interview.
"If this first movie does well, we're all roped into a trilogy," said Fillion. "We all signed for a trilogy so if this first one does well, we're going to do two more."
Fillion also expressed hope that a successfull film or three could lead to another television series – a sentiment all fans can approve of.
Fillion, who also worked with Whedon in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has nothing but praise for the director's work on Serenity. "Joss is a brilliant man. He's one of those guys that is so very, very clever, he can leave you in the dust intellectually. But he's one of those guys that keeps his feet on the ground and doesn't ever make you feel stupid. He's far more intelligent than I. How he does it? I don't know. If I could kill him and take that talent I would."
Nine months seems like an eternity to wait considering all the questions Whedon's intriguing series left unanswered, but seeing the crew of the Firefly return for two hours of movie time should be worth it. I highly encourage readers to check out the Firefly DVD set if they haven't already. Even if you've seen it on TV, the DVD set included episodes that never aired. -- Paul Davidson

Well this is good news, hopefully after the other 2 films are done they will be able to bring the show back to TV.

I hope so! I felt 18 episodes weren't enough even if they were all excellent ones. I have it on DVD, and I'm a BIG Firefly fan! It's amazing how well a series has comedy, action, sci-fi, even a little bit of western and mystery all thrown into one big mix.
I really hope Firefly: Serenity will be successful, and they'll consider making another series.

It would be great if the new movie kindled a revival of the show, but I am hoping it just blows away the competition and sets Fox on it's ear---payback time.

We could tie them all together, gag them so they can't talk and make them watch re-run's of Boa and Python and Boa vs. Python-and all of the second rate made for tv movie's that they have been putting out lately and have been forcing on us-LOL-

I thought "Zardoz" was about as bad and cheesy as they could get...but they are the ones that would air it in a encore presentation
