I must admit I was a bigger fan of Season one on the whole, It was the begining(sp?) of this fabulous show that was so very different, from anything else on television--I wish they had continued on with it.

I liked Season One better as well, overall. It was grittier somehow. Not that Season Two wasn't gritty, of course. Season One seemed to have a more... 'colonial' feel to it, if that makes sense.

As I've said on the starhuntertv.com forum many a time, I prefer the first season for a variety of reasons, but at the same time, Season 2 is much better to sit down, pull out a disc and start watching. The effects are better, the action is more exciting and involved, and the characters, while not as strongly developed, have more energetic interactions. On another note, a couple of minutes of Rudolpho at the beginning of the episodes was never as good as having him around for the whole episode- though sometimes having those gauranteed couple of minutes meant he got more airtime than he sometimes got in Season 2.

I've got to agree with Speardane about Season 2 being more watchable. While Season 1 had more interesting plotlines and more interesting guest stars (several from the UK), I always got the feeling that the episodes had been rushed through production. The dialogue seemed awkward sometimes. It just didn't seem like they'd given the castmembers enough time to work things out.
Season 2 obviously had a better budget (well, until you notice the Business Depot furniture on the bridge and in the shuttle). I also felt there was more background detail and 'history' in Season 2.
The Raiders were more believable in their motorcycle-club incarnation in Season 2, than the vague, pseudo-military way they were presented in Season 1. I preferred the individual episode plots in Season 2 as well. I kind of liked the 'fugitive of the week' approach. I was never too keen on all that Divinity Cluster stuff in Season 1. Just my personal taste, I guess. Season 2 just seemed closer to hard-SF.
Seeing more of Rudolpho was also a treat. We only got to meet one of his ex-wives. I wonder what the others were like? You could do a whole series just on Rudolpho's crazy life and have plenty of action, I'm sure. And watching Percy as she gradually begins to crack-up through the season was fascinating. You seldom get that kind of negative-development of a protagonist in a sci-fi series. Percy was far more interesting in the second season than she was in the first. I was looking forward to each new episode wondering, 'what's she gonna do next?'.
I still preferred Caravaggio in Season 1 though. Murray Melvin was great. He had the best lines in the whole series.
I love both seasons though, no matter what. I just wish those final 7 episodes from Season 1 were available on DVD darnit!!

I really enjoyed season one, as well. The only thing I like about season two more than season one is that I was able to purchase the whole series on DVD. It's really hard for me to favor one over the other, though. They were both very well done... But I think the first season was a bit more humorous. In my opinion, anyway. I haven't seen any of the episodes as of late(on DVD on or TV) (been very busy with projects and a presentation). I also really liked Percy's character a bit more in the first season. She had some pretty funny things to say. Though I did like how Rudy became a part of the crew in the second season. Oh, if anybody has a favorite quote from the first season (haven't gotten to the second season yet...), I'd be more than happy to get an MP3 audio clip of it and put it up on my fansite.
