Love Star Trek, grew up with it, but I to believe they need to pull over for a while.
I guess the Star Trek Train just kept going from STNG and by the time it got to Enterprise it had run out of steam and the creative juice that is needed for originality. I've got to say that the Time Travel; World in Peril and the continuous to be continued.... started to wear thin with me.
Saying that though, the final episode is airing here in England on 2 Aug 05, no doubt it will have time travel and the world will be in peril, but I'll still be watching ;D

Well I still think that Enterprise could have done well if they had a whole new writing staff and someone else as the executive producer chairs. I sometimes wonder what Roddenberry's Son would have done with the show.

Leave it alone a while and rest
Then come back with something different so when it comes back everyone will be pumped
I can live on old reruns...have a lot of TNG,TOS,DS9 on VHS and DVD
So true....I second that

18 years is a long time to be on TV, considering that each Trek series existed in the same Universe and there were various crossovers. I think after a couple of years they can revive Trek as a film or TV series and interest will be high once again.

This is interesting. Kind of like what they wanted to do with Enterprise if it had continued. This might be fun to watch as more details about the project unfold.

Is this a cunning media plan?
Tell us there will be no Star Trek........ Then release a film that in normal circumstances when Trek was on air, would be looked at with a big question mark! A film with nothing familiar about it (Crew or Setting).
It sounds a bold move (and to be honest I'll be happy if it works (and dissapointed they didn't try it earlier!))
As for the TV series:
I sometimes wished that they used some of the great storylines and ideas they had for the TV 2-parters, for some of the films ;D

I think the problem is that Paramount really doesn't know what to do with Trek. They started off with 12 million viewers for Enterprise. Then went down to two million by the time the show was canceled. So they canceled the show and said they were putting Trek on vacation. Then, as a little time goes on, and after they placed the last nail in the "Enterprise" coffin they start to have second thoughts. Since ticket sales were spotty on the Next Gen films, and the feeling was that the other Trek shows weren't strong enough to generate films about, they're left with starting over with a new cast. Kind of a "pre-Generation" Star Trek. The problem is that's what Enterprise was supposed to be. It was supposed to be a show that gave us the beginning of the Star Trek legend. In the end, the writers were confused as to what elements to include in the beginning and what elements to build up to. What was supposed to remind us of the Kirk Enterprise ended up far different than that. The most successful Trek films were the ones which were based in some part on TV episodes: Khan and First Contact. While I would like to see this Trek movie do well I have a feeling it might end up being another misfire on Paramounts part.

The thing that I find so funny is that there are fan based movies that are being made that take place in the ST Verse that sound that they have more direction than what has come out of Paramount.

I have a feeling that Paramount is stuck on the prequel idea and is going with this because they want to try to get it right this time. I agree with you about the fan fiction. A lot of fan fiction is much more creative that the suggestions for new Trek films.

I think after the gong show that was Enterprise, it was a good idea to kill it. I don't think Star Trek will return to the heights it achieved with such film as The Wrath of Khan, The Undiscovered Country and First Contact. The symbolic representation of racism in Let That be Your Last Battlefield and the brilliant writing in Wolf in the Fold and the excellent story of City on the Edge of Forever are jems of the glory days of Star Trek. In many respects, the Star Trek franchise had already lost most of what made it great after the end of the second season of TOS.
