Has anyone seen this book series, based off the PC games Dark Forces and its sequel, Jedi Knight? I just found the second of the trilogy used a few days ago, and thought I'd pick it up, having bought the first a while back.
The stories are not bad, by William C. Dietz, and follow a quick, dramatized walk-through of bits of the games. It's neat to see parts I remember from the games (Dark Forces was one of the first PC games I got on CD, and introduced me to the SW universe) described in a book, but where it really shines is the artwork. Every few pages, there is a full-page print of a painting depicting the narrative. They're very well-done (especially in the first of the series, which was done by a different artist), and adds a nice touch to the book.
The story is about Kyle Katarn, a young man who grew up on the planet of Sulon, and was sent to the Imperial Academy to become an imperial soldier. After graduating, he finds out his father has been killed in a vicious Rebel terrorist raid, but soon learns it was in fact Imperials dressed as Rebels. He then joins the Rebel Alliance in a secret mission to steal the plans for a terrifying new Imperial superweapon - the DEATH STAR (this mission is actually the first level of Dark Forces).
It turns out, his father was a Rebel, and came across a powerful Jedi burial ground on an uncharted colony world. This Valley of the Jedi would be terrible in the hands of the wrong people, and a Dark Jedi named Jerec and his followers are trying to find it. Katarn finds he has an affinity to the Force, and must find the Valley, and stop Jerec at any cost.
The series is:
-Dark Forces: Soldier for the Empire
-Dark Forces: Rebel Agent
-Dark Forces: Jedi Knight
