I found this link and I signed the petition. It says there are 10,000 signatures when, in fact, mine was numbered over 25,000, so I guess this has been out there awhile. Anyway, I want to see Bilbo's story in all the Peter Jackson glory he gave Frodo in "The Lord of The Rings". Check it out and sign the petition if you enjoy Peter Jackson's work. www.thehobbitfilm.com/

He's having problems getting the rights to do the movie. I don't remember who owns the rights to it (swiss cheese brain again). He says he WILL do it once they get the rights. I just want it sooner than later so the same actors can play the parts of Bilbo and Gandalf. Picky, picky, picky

I would have though that Tolken's kids had the rights, or is it that there is another production company that has the rights and is just sitting on them for the time being?

It's the latter, Jabberwocky. Production wars and all - ;D
As much as the film would make, it looks like they would just take the money offered and run.

well there seems to be a response so far I got it and here it is
Official Letter from New Line Cinema's Bob Shaye
Dear Loyal LOTR Fans,
Thank you very, very much for the incredible outpouring of support for LOTR, and your eagerness to see THE HOBBIT.
We, at New Line, are most touched and appreciative of your compliments, and your passion for the remarkable work of the author, the filmmakers, talent, and craftspeople.
We are also, as you, most anxious to see THE HOBBIT realized.
Please be assured that there is, in no way, a crass argument with MGM or anyone over money or rights. In fact, no discussions about any settlement of our respective claims, has been commenced. When, and if, such discussions ensue, be assured that we intend to be equitable and appropriate to the spirit of Tolkien, and THE HOBBIT. We will, as much as possible, "do the right thing", respecting the incredible loyalty and appreciation of the worldwide fans. We hope that MGM will feel the same.
However, we also wish to have the film overseen by the best possible mentors - and, for us, if possible, that means Peter and Fran. They are totally occupied by KING KONG now and, we believe, will be the next twenty-four months, or so.
So our efforts will take time to realize.
Sincerely,
Robert Shaye Co-CEO/Co-Chairman New Line Cinema
and I have also signed the petion as #26125.

Strange since when has a Hollywood Production company ever repected the works of an Author. At least when there collective butts are not being put in check. lol
