I saw this movie at the drive in theater when it first came out. I was with my sister and her husband and two kids in a Corvair watching ever so intently. I've always loved scary movies, especially Hitchcock. At the end when the mummified body of the mother was turned around, that was the one and only time in my life that I screamed during a movie! My brother-in-law was sitting in front of me in the driver seat, and he hit his head on the roof of the car. He had been to Korea during the war in the 50s, and he said he never lost it as bad as he did that night because it was so unexpected.

There's absolutely nothing like something original to scare the pants off you. Even though it's kinda mild by today's standards, it had never been done before and Hitchcock always held you in suspense. You never knew why you were scared til the climax of the movie.
