I know this will only appeal to some on this site but I thought I’d do a review of some PC games I enjoy playing.
Nexus the Jupiter Incident:
The game play is very much like the Homeworld format. You control 1 -6 ships (armed with your choice of weapons, fighters and shuttles). IMHO I think the story is a very good one, which helps with any game, and the controls are easy to master. Can be found on budget labels. 8/10
Warhammer Dawn of War:
This is a C&C style game where you control squads of approx 8 persons and different vehicles. It follows a great storyline, especially if your into Warhammer. An add-on is to follow shortly called Winter Assault so it might be worth waiting before a purchase. This is an 9/10 for me.
Battle for Middle Earth:
Another great game, again like C&C in that you control an assortment of units but essentially have to gather resources, forces, then kick butt! Many LotR games have been disappointing; this isn’t 9/10
Classics:
Old games that are worthy of mention (and are now cheap to buy):
Warcraft 3 and Frozen Throne add-on about 2 years old now, but like starcraft did in it’s time, this is a gem of C&C style game. It is very basic in it’s premise (as most Real Time Strategies(RTS) are) collect resources to build your force and conquer the enemy, but this is done really well. It is a long game where you end up controlling all the races (Orcs, Humans, Undead and Dark Elves). 8/10
Sid Meiers Pirates it may not be a fast paced game but this game probably has a life of a couple of weeks each time you play it. Essentially it’s based around the Caribbean in the 1600s. You choose to be English, French, Dutch or Spanish, then sail the seas to make your fortune! During the game you can trade, steal, sword fight, romance prospective wives, take on pirates, find treasure and find missing members of your family. All these quests earn you land and money which results in a position on a league table when you finally decide to divide your plunder and retire. The replayability of this game makes it a 8/10.
