Terminal Games : A cyberthriller by Cole Periman 1994, Well I forced myself to read this book, on the back cover you have Timothy Leary describing the story as "The first true twenty-first-century thriller, Terminal Games takes you on a scary funhouse ride beyond the here-and-now to the there-and-then" How I would describe it as something to read if you are having trouble sleeping. I really at times had to stop reading because I was so bored I was falling a sleep and I needed to stay awake. What is happening is that someone is killing people that are members of a computer recreational network. So technology wise you have a book that was written before the Internet was really well known, and that most people connected their computers on to electronic bulletin boards. Only this one is one that is sort of like what Virtual Reality web pages where like. There isn't broadband but everything is done over phonelines, so the tech being used just don't make sense to how the network that the story is worked around. What you have is a person going around this place with an avatar of a clown names Auggie that in a room on the network called the Snuff Room reenacts these murders for everyone to watch. I found the whole thing almost completely predictable, I was able to spot who was going to be the next victim. In now way shape of form would I call this book a Cyberpunk novel for the simple reason there is no EDGE to this book in anyway.
