I know we have a few Myst fan's on here, so let's get to talking!!!! The Games have always had a hi level of graphics quality but the game play does leave a little to be desired in that a quite a few of the puzzles leave me scratching my head because I have no idea what it is that I'm suppose to be looking at. The four game is more so than the others. I still haven't finished the 3rd or the fourth one. The think that has been pissing me off with the fourth one is that in one of the ages I got lost running around in circles in the jungle with no idea what it is that I'm suppose to be doing there.

I've always been a huge fan of this series, as well as the three Myst novels. Unfortunately, my computer can barely run Uru, and I can't afford Myst 4: Revelations, which I suspect I also can't run.

If you can run Myst 3 you should be able to run Myst 4, Uru on the other hand is a complete different game engine used. so you can't compare those two games.

Well, Myst 4 has much higher graphics than Exile. I think it has a higher colour depth, as well as having a whole lot more video in it.

Well the spec on the box say: Myst 3 : Exile Operating System: Windows® 95/98/ME (only) Processor: 233 MHz Pentium® II or 300 MHz K6-2 or faster RAM: 64 MB RAM Video Card: 8 MB DirectX® 8-compatible video card (3D acceleration optional) Sound Card: DirectX 8-compatible sound card CD-ROM: 4X CD-ROM drive or faster (not recommended for use with CD-RWs) Hard Drive Space: 250 MB available hard drive space Supports 32-bit color Myst 4 : Revelations Supported OS: Windows® 98SE/2000/Me/XP (only) Processor: 700 MHz Pentium® III or AMD Athlon™ or better (Pentium IV recommended) RAM: 128 MB RAM (256 recommended) (256 MB required for XP) Video Card: 32 MB DirectX® 9-compliant video card (64 MB recommended) (see supported list*) Sound Card: DirectX 9.0-compliant sound card DirectX: DirectX 9.0 (included on DVD) DVD: 4x DVD or faster Hard Drive Space: 3 GB free Display: 800x600 display So yeah, if your system specs are closer to what's needed for Myst 3 then you would have problems. Its not so bad with the mac because we don't use Direct X for anything. But they both require the same amount of Video ram. Though Myst 4 does needs twice the amount of RAM to play. Though on the mac side they do recommend a G5 processer. of which I don't have. but the game is do-able for me.

Well, I have an Athlon XP 1800+, 1.6gHz, so I probably won't be able to run it. (I say this because with those specs, I could barely run Exile. )

(I say this because with those specs, I could barely run Exile. ) Thats strange because what I have read about that chip it is able to out perform a P4 1.7GHz chip. If you had troubles running Exile then something must have been conflicting with the game. Exile was know for being a buggy game. I had troubles with that on a mac that more than met the spect for.

Well, I have no idea what's going on with my computer right now. On the one hand, I can run games like Freelancer (which has fairly steep-ish reqs) and Splinter Cell (albeit a little slowly), yet X: Beyond the Frontier, which requires only a Pentium 175 and any 3D card, runs unplayably slowly, despite my processor being about ten times faster, and a GeForce 4 3d card.

It's been a while, and I plan to next time I'm home. Don't know when that'll be though. Even still though, I've defragged and everything, and it shouldn't be running so slowly, regardless of how much junk is in the registry.

Are you keeping your antispy and antivirus software up to date, with out knowing it you might have something running around the system that you should have on it. Still with out knowing to much about whats on your system its hard to say some antivirus apps sometime hog a lot of cpu time and that can slow a system down as well.

I'm actually well aware of all the spyware crap on my system. AdAware and Norton can't get rid of them, even with the latest libraries. But that shouldn't prevent X from running slowly. Spyware doesn't take up GPU runtime without affecting CPU runtime.
